Welcome to the Farmer’s Dinner
The Farmer’s Dinner came from a desire to share local food from local farms with local families. We wanted to offer convenience and consistency while building community with like-minded families who were searching for more connection with their food and farmers.
what is ‘the farmer’s dinner’?
The Farmer’s Dinner is Food Security. It’s Nourishment. It’s Community, and it’s also our monthly box program! We partner with local farms to offer the best of the regions farm-sourced foods, including, meat, eggs, honey, fruit, vegetables, herbs and soon - locally crafted cheeses. The box is delivered monthly and curated to your preferences.
why it’s called ‘the farmer’s dinner’
The name comes from the premise behind the box program, which is really just to eat like a farmer - it’s about appreciating what is in season, valuing the whole animal, and learning to try different things. Our boxes are ‘Farmer’s Choice’ which means the farm chooses which items go in each month, but every family is given a survey to share their preferences, which we do our best to accommodate. For example, some families are “no leafy greens” while others are “only dark meat” or “gluten free.”
how it works
The boxes are offered in 3 different sizes - small ($100 value), medium ($150 value) and large ($200 value). Your box will be delivered to your door every month. When you sign up online, you can choose to pay by credit card, or etransfer.
what makes it unique
Food subscription programs are increasing in popularity, here’s a few things that set ours apart…
Farmer Owned & Operated: The entirety of this program is managed by Brass Bell Farm in collaboration with the other farms who supply it. This means we have an intimate understanding of each item in your box and every step it takes to get it from our fields into your home. There is no ‘middle-man’ - we grow it, raise it, pack it and deliver it all ourselves!
Every Box is Different: While we emphasize the importance of eating a variety of local foods and making the best of what’s in season, we also want you to get the most out of your box. Each box is packed to reflect your family size, cooking style and what you enjoy the most, while working within local/seasonal availability.
No Commitment: Unlike a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box, there is no commitment. If you decide the program isn’t for you or your circumstances change, you are free to cancel at any time. We also offer the option to ‘skip’ a month which is great if you’ll be out of town, need to minimize expenses, or just want a short break.
how to join
We currently offer 5 delivery routes every month and while some are full, we have space on others. To join the waitlist, complete the form below and we will reach out when we have availability in your area. Our delivery routes cover Sooke to Sidney, and unfortunately we cannot offer boxes beyond that.
meet the farmers & chefs behind your box
Brass Bell Farm
Amber Rowse-Robinson & Nick Robinson
Amber and Nick provide the meat and eggs for the box program, as well as being responsible for the day-to-day running of The Farmer’s Dinner. Amber handles all of the administration for the program and is the one packing your boxes. Nick is generally the one managing deliveries.
Ragley Farm
Josephine Hill
Josephine Hill of Ragley Farm is a local icon. Although now retired from Ragley’s infamous market days, she still grows an extraordinary amount of beautiful food, right here in East Sooke. Many of the herbs, vegetables and fruit in your box comes from Ragley Farm, and the farm itself is now the ‘headquarters’ for the program.
West Coast Mycology
Robin Jackson
Robin has an impressive history in the local culinary scene, including a past career as Head Chef at Sooke Harbour House. Now you are more likely to find him at his mushroom farm in Metchosin or out foraging for fungi in the woods. Robin grows incredible mushrooms and we love being able to offer these in the box program.
Mensch Kitchen & Catering
Daniel Shimon
They say it’s a small world… Amber went to high school with Dan’s brother Mike - and they stumbled into each other again when Mike and Dan were looking for a source of sustainably-raised chicken, and Amber was looking for a chef to take on her prepared foods vision. Daniel has been the talent behind our chicken pot pies, beef pot pies and tourtières.
Sea Bluff Farm
Robin Tunnicliffe & Sasha Kubicek
Robin and Sasha are established farmers in Metchosin BC. Sea Bluff Farm is certified organic and productive year-round! Robin and Sasha are well-known in the community as movers and shakers, as well as for their beautiful produce. From salad mixes to strawberries, we are grateful to include Sea Bluff produce in your box.
Haltwhistle Cheese Co.
Cory Spencer
Anyone familiar with Haltwhistle Cheese products will be thrilled to know that after a few years hiatus, Haltwhistle is back! Cory is an incredibly gifted cheesemaker and has been the number one supporter of our sheep dairy ventures. We can’t wait to offer Vancouver Island made cheeses starting fall of 2026.
testimonials
“ I have so much gratitude and appreciation for Amber and her principled approach to farming and meat/poultry production. Her hard work enables my family to eat foods that have been produced locally in an environmentally responsible, caring way -and that is priceless to me.. I hope Amber is able to grow and expand the program through her own farm growth and through even more partnerships with other similar-minded local food producers - we all benefit from this. The quality of the contents of each box is always top-notch and it is obvious how much care Amber puts into it. I hope to continue to take advantage of this box program for many years to come!”

“I would highly recommend the Farmers Dinner box. The beef is the best I have ever tasted and quality of the other ingredients is amazing and the thought and consideration that Amber puts into curating the boxes each month is evident and Nick will literally deliver through floods, winter storms and anything else mother nature will throw at him. I very much appreciate the effort and care put into these boxes each month.”
